Tips for Going Green and Saving Energy
Set your water heater to 120 degrees.
Open drapes on south facing windows when it's sunny in the winter.
Set your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower when no one is home.
Seal Duct Leaks (Seal leaky ducts with mastic, metal-backed tape or aerosol sealant. This will reduce heat loss and WILL last longer than duct tape).
Open inside doors to improve air circulation.
Replace your furnace or heat pump filter regularly. (Dirty filters reduce airflow, making your equipment work harder using more energy.)
Install a programmable thermostat (This device can save as much as 20 percent off your heating and cooling costs).
Install low flow shower heads, toilets, and faucets.
Have your furnace regularly maintained by a professional (Regular furnace maintenance can reduce energy costs between $18 and $80 each winter).
Recycle when ever possible.
Don't throw your coffee grounds away. Use them in your garden or flower beds.
Use a pitcher to water your flowers, a little can go a long way.
